How to Read Your Bible
This morning (06/17/26) I sat to write some guidelines on how to read your Bible, and as I was researching I discovered these exellent videos from Dr. Michael Heiser that do an extremely good job of addressing the topic. The Bible study software that he uses in the videos is the Logos Bible Study Platform,[1] which has a free version that is quite adequate for casual study, but the least expensive paid version is extremely affordable and includes a huge library of Bibles and reference works. I strongly recommend the entry level package as a minimum. Here is a link to a comparison of the various available packages. (I personally use the Pro version at this writing.)
Disclaimer: Dr. Michael S. Heiser, of blessed memory (Feb. 14, 1963 – Feb.
20, 2023). I only became aware of Dr. Heiser’s “Divine Council” theology after his leaving
the earthly realm, and as yet I am not sure how much (if any) of his teaching I fully agree
with. In all fairness, those of you have spent any time on this website know there are very
few (if any) people with whom I agree completely, and I do not expect anyone to fully
agree with me. However, I do find his viewpoint very interesting, well articulated,
worthy of further investigation, and possibly even compelling. So, I have included many of
his teaching videos — most of which are quite lengthy — as part of my website. If you would
like a more systematic and “bite-size” way of discovering what “Divine Council” theology is
all about, I refer you to his “NakedBible Podcast,” the
Divine Council
Worldview Facebook Group, and his website at drmsh.com. BUT BE WARNED:
Once you are familiar with his teaching, you will see the Divine Council throughout the Tanakh;
once you have seen it, it is impossible to un-see. Whether or not you accept his teaching,
you will never read your Bible the same way again.
Media Disclaimer: Presence of video or audio recordings on this website does not
necessarily indicate agreement with all (or any) of the speaker’s theological position.

1. I have absolutely no financianal interest in whether or not you choose to use Logos. I’m recommending it solely because I find it a valuable Bible study tool. [BACK]
