This section is designed as a 3-unit freshman-level course in Restoration Theology that meets for one hour on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each page should actually take about an hour to read, as if you were actually sitting in a one-hour seminary class.
Setting the Scene
I have tried to make this section feel as if you were physically sitting
in my classroom as I teach this course. I want to give you the
experience of the theology classes in which for eight wonderful years I
dearly loved to learn, and then for several years afterwards to teach. If you were
watching this as a movie, the visual cues and production notes tell you
what you would be seeing in the classroom.
Production Note, setting the scene: The primary scene for the entire
production is a large seminary classroom with both male and female
students of various ages and ethnicities seated at several wooden tables
with wooden chairs. A few tall windows bathe the classroom with warm
sunlight. On one entire wall of the classroom is a large set of dark
wooden shelves lined with reference books, ancient Middle
Eastern—primarily Israeli—artifacts and scrolls. Another wall is adorned
with maps of ancient Israel and neighboring regions. There are also a
few framed photographs of archaeological digs on the wall. On the wall
at the front of the classroom is a large digital smart-board. Near the
front of the classroom is a solid wood lectern, the professor’s slightly
worn wooden desk, and a matching wooden table. On the desk are several
versions of the Bible including a black leather-bound JPS Tanakh,
a brown leather-bound Complete Jewish Bible, a hardbound
English Standard Version, a hardbound Greek Septuagint, and a
tan hardbound Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia, along with a small
assortment of theology textbooks. On the desk is a small brass nameplate
with the instructor’s name—Dr. Ari Levitt—beneath which in smaller
letters his academic degrees are listed—ThM, ThD, DMin, MA, MBA. Also on
his desk are an almost-neat stack of file folders and a couple of stacks
of typewritten pages. On the table are a few small artifacts, a few
small scrolls, and another small stack of file folders. The instructor
is Dr. Ari Levitt. He is in his late 50s with wavy gray hair and
matching neatly-trimmed full beard and mustache. He wears
an unbuttoned
casual tweed blazer, a soft brown sweater vest over a powder blue
button-down shirt, and a royal blue kippah.]
