In the Beginning Was the Word
The provided text chronicles the creation of the universe and the early history of humanity as told in the opening chapters of Genesis. It details the six days of divine labor, during which the world was formed from chaos, culminating in the establishment of the Sabbath rest. The narrative follows the first humans, Adam and Eve, from their placement in the Garden of Eden to their subsequent expulsion following a profound act of disobedience. This transition into a harsher existence leads to the first murder committed by their son, Cain, and a long genealogical record of their descendants. Ultimately, the account describes a global shift toward wickedness and corruption, prompting a divine decision to cleanse the earth while sparing a single righteous man named Noah.

Something Might Be Off With Our 6,000 Year Timeline
BLK SHP Bible Talk
Is humanity really 6,000 years old? The Bible never actually says that number,
but here’s how millions of Christians get there, and why the math might not hold
up the way we’ve always assumed.
In this video we look closely at Genesis 5, the genealogy from Adam to Noah that’s
usually treated as a straightforward chronology. But when you compare it to the other
genealogies in Genesis, Genesis 4, Genesis 10, and even the two genealogies of Jesus
in Matthew and Luke, a different pattern shows up. Not every genealogy in Scripture
is tracking years lived.
We’ll walk through:
• Where the “6,000 years” number actually comes from, and why it’s not a direct quote from the Bible
• Why Genesis 10 tracks nations, Genesis 4 tracks culture, and Genesis 5 does something else entirely
• The Hebrew names in Genesis 5, read together, and what they might be quietly saying
• The 600 year gap between the Hebrew text and the Greek Septuagint, and why two faithful manuscript traditions could disagree by that much
• Why the ages in Genesis 5 might be marking covenant headship instead of a stopwatch
This video doesn’t answer how old humanity actually is. That’s next. Once you stop treating these genealogies as a countdown, the door opens to a different investigation entirely, and that’s exactly where we’re headed in the next video.
Is It Even Our Math? What Biblical History Tells Us About Genesis
Last video, I told you the Bible never actually said humanity is six thousand years old. This time, I show you why, and where the real answer actually starts.
We leave Israel completely and go back to Mesopotamia, to a man named Abram, before he’s ever called out of Ur. His language, his culture, and most importantly for this video, his math, all of it shows up in the shape of Genesis 1-11 in ways I never noticed until recently.
Along the way: the strange parallel between Cain’s line and Seth’s line (and why it repeats again with Nimrod and Shem), what Genesis 2 is actually establishing that Genesis 1 doesn’t, why Genesis 6:1 and Genesis 10 both work like narrative rewinds, and the actual math behind Genesis 5’s ages, the same sacred number system the Sumerians used, with odds of about one in a billion against it being an accident.
And at the end, my honest answer to the question everyone actually wants asked: how old is humanity.
