The Unseen Rebellion
and the
Babylonian Taproot:
A Divine
Council Perspective on Redemption

1. Foundations of the Divine Council Worldview
In the prolegomena of any robust Messianic Systematic Theology, one must first recover the “Divine Council” worldview—the essential framework through which the biblical authors perceived the intersection of the seen and unseen realms. Far from a primitive myth, this perspective defines the universe as a managed cosmic enterprise. The Creator, ADONAI, does not operate in isolation; He has established a celestial hierarchy of benéi Elohim (Sons of God) to participate in the “family business” of cosmic management and universal governance. These beings are created “imagers,” designed to reflect the Creator’s authority within the spiritual domain, just as humanity was commissioned to do within the physical.
Linguistic precision is paramount here. The Hebrew term elohim does not denote a specific set of ontological attributes (such as omniscience or omnipotence), which belong to ADONAI alone. Rather, elohim is a term of “location.” It refers to any resident of the unseen realm. While there are many elohim, only ADONAI is Ha-Elohim (The God)—the self-existent Sovereign. The diversity of these spirit entities was unfortunately obscured by the 3rd-century BCE Septuagint (LXX) translation. Due to the limitations of Greek vocabulary, the nuanced functional categories of the Hebrew worldview were collapsed into the generic categories of “angels“ (Greek: angelos) and “demons” (Greek: daimonion). This linguistic shift masked the sophisticated hierarchy of the council, where titles denote “assigned function” rather than biological species.
The Celestial Hierarchy
| Rank/Title | Assigned Function |
|---|---|
| Benéi Elohim | “Sons of God” who rank above the angelic host; high-level created imagers tasked with cosmic governance and the “family business.” |
| Cherubim | Specialized guardians of sacred space; they function as the living throne-bearers and sentinels of the Divine Presence (Panim). |
| Seraphim | “Burning ones” whose primary function is the maintenance of ritual purity and the proclamation of the Creator’s holiness. |
| Malakim | Literally “messengers”; the rank-and-file spiritual host who facilitate communication and carry out specific directives between realms. |
The existence of this council, endowed with genuine free will to manage creation, inherently allowed for the possibility of defiance. This potential for rebellion eventually manifested in three historical pivot points that fractured the relationship between the Council, Humanity, and the Creator.
2. The Trilogy of Defiance: Analyzing the Three Rebellions
The history of the fallen world is not the result of a single localized error but a “trilogy of defiance.” These three rebellions represent a progressive breakdown of the cosmic order, creating a legal and spiritual “knot” that necessitated a specific, redemptive counter-strategy.
The Eden Rebellion
The first defiance was sparked by a jealous ben Elohim (metaphorically the “Serpent”). Witnessing the creation of a human family of “imagers” granted dominion over the physical realm, this being sought to disqualify humanity. By deceiving Adam and Eve into seeking autonomy apart from ADONAI, the Serpent successfully orchestrated a strategic coup. When Adam submitted to the Serpent’s counsel, he legally relinquished his dominion. The result was the “Accuser” becoming the de facto ruler of the world, leaving the physical realm under the curse of sin and death.
The Flood Rebellion
The second rebellion, described in Genesis 6, was a strategic attempt by a group of benéi Elohim to permanently subvert the promised redemption. By “leaving their own domain” to interbreed with human women, they sought to contaminate the human bloodline with non-human DNA, creating a hybrid race known as the Nephilim. Their goal was the total corruption of the human “seed” to ensure the Redeemer (the “Seed of the Woman”) could never be born. In this context, Noah’s “perfection” was not merely moral but genetic; his lineage remained uncorrupted (tamin) by this spirit-led biological intrusion.
The Babel Rebellion
The third rebellion occurred at Shinar under Nimrod. In response to humanity’s refusal to scatter and their attempt to build a centralized system of autonomy, ADONAI executed the judgment described in Deuteronomy 32:8-9. He “disinherited” the seventy nations, assigning them to the oversight of lesser elohim (the “Sons of God”), while choosing Israel—through the then-unborn line of Abraham—as His own personal “portion” (chebel).
The Judgment of the Gods (Psalm 82) Psalm 82 records the Creator’s indictment of these assigned elohim for their subsequent corruption and injustice:
• The Indictment: “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked?”
• The Failure: They failed to rescue the weak and needy or deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
• The Sentence: “I said, ‘You are gods (elohim), sons of the Most High… nevertheless, like men you shall die.’”
These three rebellions established the legal grounds for the Protoevangelium, the blueprint designed to untie this cosmic knot.
3. The Protoevangelium: The Blueprint for Reversal
The Protoevangelium (Genesis 3:15) is the foundational prophecy of all human history. Spoken immediately following the Edenic fall, it established the hamartiology (study of sin) and the soteriology (study of salvation) that would govern the rest of the biblical narrative.
The specific mechanics of the prophecy—“He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel”—outline a high-stakes legal conflict. The “strike to the heel” refers to the suffering and physical death of the Messiah, while the “crushing of the head” signifies the final, lethal blow to the Serpent’s stolen authority. This prophecy created a strict genealogical requirement: the Redeemer had to be a pure “Seed of the Woman.” This explains the strategic motivation behind the Flood Rebellion; the rebellious benéi Elohim attempted genetic contamination specifically to disqualify any future human from fulfilling this prophecy.
The mission of the Messiah was never merely about the forgiveness of individual human infractions. It was a strategic, cosmic mission to “destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3:8) and legally reverse the authority of the rebellious elohim. The Messiah came to reclaim the disinherited nations and restore the human family to its original place in the Divine Council.
4. The Babylonian Taproot: The Economy of the Counterfeit
The “Babylonian Taproot” is the historical outworking of the Babel rebellion—a parasitic distortion of the Protoevangelium designed to “vaccinate” humanity against the true Messiah.
Nimrod and the Hunter’s Theology
Nimrod, the architect of the Shinar rebellion, is identified in archaeological parallels as Sargon of Akkad or Enmerkar. He was the first to successfully engineer a “one-world government,” shifting worship from local deities to the imperial state. The Hebrew text describes him as a “mighty hunter against (panim) the LORD”—meaning “in the face of” or “in open defiance of” ADONAI. He was a hunter of men’s souls, drawing humanity into a centralized system of organized rebellion.
The Counterfeit Seed (Semiramis and Tammuz)
Following Nimrod’s violent death, his wife/mother Semiramis hijacked the Genesis 3:15 prophecy. She claimed her son, Tammuz, was the resurrected Nimrod and the ֧“Promised Seed” of the woman. This established the Mother-Child cult, which served as a spiritual “vaccination.” By providing a false fulfillment early in history, the Babylonian system ensured that when the true Messiah arrived, skeptics would dismiss Him as merely another iteration of the ancient Tammuz/Horus/Mithras myths.
The Roman Synthesis (Interpretatio Christiana)
In the 4th century, the Roman Empire under Constantine utilized the policy of Interpretatio Christiana. Rather than dismantling the Babylonian Mystery Religion, Constantine rebranded it to unify his empire. His motivation was explicitly anti-Torah; in his letters after the Council of Nicaea, he stated, “It appeared an unworthy thing… we should follow the practice of the Jews… let us then have nothing in common with the detestable Jewish crowd.”
| Ancient Babylonian/Roman Motif | Syncretized Christian Label |
|---|---|
| Queen of Heaven (Ishtar/Diana/Semiramis) |
Non-biblical Mary (Theotokos/Queen of Heaven) |
| Statue of Jupiter | Statue of Peter |
| Sun-worshipping priests (The “Circle”) | College of Cardinals |
| Solar Calendar (Sun-day/Saturnalia) | Church Calendar (Sunday/Christmas) |
| Feast of Ishtar | Easter |
This “Taproot” remains the primary source of theological confusion (Babel) today, severing the faith from its original, covenantal foundations.
5. The Remnant’s Exodus: Reclaiming the Ancient Path
The “Theology of the Remnant” identifies the historical continuity of those who refuse the Babylonian synthesis. This remnant acts as a bridge from the original Netzarim (Nazarenes) to the final restoration.
The Torah Filter
To distinguish the authentic Messiah (Yeshua) from the lawless counterfeit (Tammuz), the Remnant employs the “Torah Filter.” While the Babylonian counterfeit presents a “Jesus” who abolishes the Father’s loving instructions and the Sabbath, the authentic Yeshua is inextricably linked to the Covenants of Israel and the Torah, which He came to fill to the full (Matthew 5:17).
The Historical Witnesses
The Remnant is not a modern invention but a historical thread of dissenters:
• The Netzarim: The original 1st-century followers (a.k.a. “The Way”) who were squeezed between Rabbinic Judaism and Roman Christianity.
• The Quartodecimans: Those who insisted on the 14th of Nisan (biblical Passover) rather than the Roman Easter.
• The Passagii: Medieval itinerant believers who practiced circumcision and kept the seventh-day Shabbat.
• The Transylvanian Sabbatarians: 16th-century reformers who rejected the Roman calendar to restore the biblical Moedim.
The Practical Exodus: A Counter-Sign Lifestyle
The mandate to “Come out of her, my people” (Rev. 18:4) is a mental and liturgical exodus executed through three “Counter-Signs”:
1. Reclaiming Sacred Time (Shabbat): Observing the seventh-day Sabbath, primarily in obedience to Torah; only secondarily as a protest against the Roman solar calendar.
• Redemptive Rhythms (Moedim): Aligning life with the biblical festivals of Leviticus 23 (the “Appointed Times of ADONAI”) rather than pagan-rooted holidays.
• Discipline of Distinction (Kashrut): Maintaining biblical dietary laws as a daily physical reminder of holiness (kadosh—set-apartness).
The final victory of the true Ben Elohim (Son of God) over the Babylonian confusion will result in the “Restoration of All Things.” By returning to the “ancient paths,” the Remnant prepares the way for the King, ensuring that when He returns, He finds a people living according to His instructions rather than the counterfeits of the rebellion.
