Mitzvot Key
Here is the “secret decoder ring” for the “applicability codes” I have affixed to the list of the 613 mitzvot. These codes were in the 2007 First Fruits of Zion Torah Club Volume 5, Rejoicing of the Torah, which is no longer in print as far as I can find.
Explanations of the Mitzvah List Symbols
P # = Positive Commandment (and its enumeration within the 248 positive commandments of Rambam’s list in Sefer HaMitzvot)
N # = Negetive Commandment (and its enumeration within the 365 negative commandments of Rambam’s list in Sefer HaMitzvot)
n = Not Applicable Under Current Circumstances (+)
Followed by either a T (indicating that it requires a
functioning Temple in Jerusalem) or by a J (indicating
that it requires a functioning Sanhedrin Judgeship)
a # = Applicable Under Circumstances (+)
Followed by a number that indicates the specific circumstances
0 = At All Times
1 = During Daylight
2 = At Midday
3 = After Sundown
D = Diasopra; applicable only beyond the borders of the Biblical Territory of the nation of Israel (not the current political borders)
L = In the Land of Israel; applical only within the borders of the Biblical Territory of the nation of Israel (not the current political borders)
M = Incumbent upon men (i.e., excludes children not recognized by the religious community as adults
Mg = Incumbent upon males in general (i.e., includes all males in all relational circumstances)
m = Incumbent upon male children (i.e., excludes all adult males, whether married or single, and is specifically for males who are not recognized by the religious community as adults)
F = Incumbent upon women (i.e., excludes children not recognized by the religious community as adults and unmarried maidens)
Fv = Incumbent upon women in general (i.e., excludes children not recognized by the religious community as adults, but includes unmarried maidens)
Fg = Incumbent upon females in general (i.e., includes all females in all relational circumstances)
f = Incumbent upon female children (i.e., excludes all adult females, whether married or single, and is specifically for females who are not recognized by the religious communikty as adults)
Ch = Incumbent upon children in general, whether male or female
U = Union of man and woman in marriage (i.e., a married couple)
Lg = Incumbent upon Levite men in general (i.e., includes all men from all houses within the tribe of Levi)
A = Incumbent upon the men of the House of Aharon (i.e., excludes all Levites except those in the line of Aharon the High Priest)
H = Incumbent upon the High Priest
K = Incumbent upon the King of Israel
X = Indicates domestic animals in the possession of Believers
