The Divine Council Worldview
An Introduction • Michael Heiser, Ph.D.
Disclaimer: Dr. Michael S. Heiser, of blessed memory (Feb. 14, 1963 – Feb.
20, 2023). I only became aware of Dr. Heiser’s “Divine Council” theology after his leaving
the earthly realm, and as yet I am not sure how much (if any) of his teaching I fully agree
with. In all fairness, those of you have spent any time on this website know there are very
few (if any) people with whom I agree completely, and I do not expect anyone to fully
agree with me. However, I do find his viewpoint very interesting, well articulated,
worthy of further investigation, and possibly even compelling. So, I have included many of
his teaching videos — most of which are quite lengthy — as part of my website. If you would
like a more systematic and “bite-size” way of discovering what “Divine Council” theology is
all about, I refer you to his “NakedBible Podcast,” the
Divine Council
Worldview Facebook Group, and his website at drmsh.com. BUT BE WARNED:
Once you are familiar with his teaching, you will see the Divine Council throughout the Tanakh;
once you have seen it, it is impossible to un-see. Whether or not you accept his teaching,
you will never read your Bible the same way again.

Divine Threads: The Biblical Tapestry of Chaos and Restoration
This video series from Dr. Heiser presents a theological orientation that emphasizes reading the Bible through the lens of its original Ancient Near Eastern (ANE) context rather than modern denominational systems. The speaker argues that biblical prophecy and imagery were often intentionally cryptic to prevent dark spiritual powers from thwarting the divine plan, a reality only fully visible after Christ’s resurrection. Central to this worldview is the concept of Cosmic Geography, which depicts the world as a battlefield where God progressively reclaims nations from the dominion of rebellious spiritual beings. The text explores the supernatural dimensions of the Gospel, suggesting that Jesus’s ministry was a targeted assault on specific “demonic headquarters” like Bashan to inaugurate his kingdom. By connecting ancient symbols like the Divine Council and Edenic temple imagery to New Testament events, the source encourages believers to see themselves as the new temple and the reconstituted family of God. This restoration process represents a deliberate reversal of the fall, aiming to transform the entire globe into a divine dwelling place.
