The Seige of Jerusalem
Josephus describes the siege of Jerusalem and the destruction of the Temple primarily in The Wars of the Jews (a.k.a., The Jewish War), Books 5 and 6. Here is a clear breakdown so you can see exactly where each major event appears.
Book 5 — The Siege of Jerusalem
This book covers:
• The Roman encirclement of the city
• The construction of siege works
• Internal civil war among Jewish factions
• Starvation and suffering inside the walls
• Detailed descriptions of Jerusalem’s layout and the Temple complex
• The Romans breaching the outer and inner walls
If someone wants to understand the progress of the siege, Book 5 is the core.
Book 6 — The Burning and Destruction of the Temple
This book contains Josephus’ famous eyewitness account of:
• The final assault on the Temple
• The accidental (or divinely ordained, in Josephus’ view) fire that destroys the sanctuary
• The slaughter of the inhabitants
• The fall of the remaining strongholds
• Titus’ reaction to the destruction
• The leveling of the city
Book 6 is where the actual destruction of the Temple is narrated in detail.
Book 7 — Aftermath
While not part of the siege itself, Book 7 includes:
• The fate of the survivors
• The triumph of Titus in Rome
• The symbolic display of Temple vessels in the Roman victory parade
This is often referenced in eschatological discussions because it shows the consequences of the destruction.
