The Fallacy of “Race”
There is only one race of mankind — the human race or Adam’s race. Adam and Eve were the first two humans. All people alive today are the descendants of Adam and Eve and subsequently Noah (Gen 1:26–27, 3:20, 10:1, 10:32; 1Cor 15:45–47; Luke 17:27; Heb 11:7; 1Pet 3:20; 2Pet 2:5). Since every human on the planet can trace his/her lineage back to Noah and his wife, it should be patently obvious to anyone who claims believe that the Bible is the word of God that we are all of the same race.
Skin Pigmentation
The main substance that determines skin color is melanin — a pigment produced by specialized cells in the skin called melanocytes.
Here's a breakdown of how it works:
Types of Melanin
• Eumelanin: Gives skin a brown or black hue. It's more common in people with darker skin tones.
• Pheomelanin: Provides a red or yellow tone, and is more prominent in lighter skin and red hair.
• People have varying ratios of these two types, which contributes to the wide range of human skin colors.
What Affects Melanin Production
• Genetics: Your DNA sets the baseline for how much melanin your body makes.
• Sun Exposure: UV rays stimulate melanocytes to produce more melanin, which is why skin tans in sunlight.
• Hormones and Medical Conditions: These can also influence melanin levels, sometimes causing dark spots or lighter patches.
Why It Matters
Melanin isn’t just cosmetic—it also acts as a shield. It helps protect against UV radiation by absorbing and dissipating harmful rays. That’s why populations from sunnier climates typically have more eumelanin.
The Image of God
Since all humans are made in the image of God, all humans have equal dignity and value regardless of age (including the unborn), intelligence, gender, physical ability, shade of skin tone, religion, ethnicity, or any other characteristic (Gen. 1:26–27, 3:20, 11:9; Acts 17:26–28).
The concepts of “social justice,” “intersectionality,” and “critical race theory” as defined in modern terminology are anti-biblical and destructive to human flourishing (Ezek 18:1–20; James 2:8–9).
