If you do not believe that Genesis chapters 1 thru 11 are literally true, how can you possibly believe that John 3:16 is literally true?

iv. The Nazirite Vow (6:1-21)

1 Again ADONAI told Moshe, 2 “Tell the people of Isra'el, ‘If either a man or a woman makes a special vow, the vow of a Nazirite, to separate himself to ADONAI, 3 he is to abstain from wine and strong drink. He must not drink vinegar made from either wine or strong drink, and he must not drink any grape juice or eat fresh grapes or raisins. 4 All the days of his abstinence he must not consume anything that is made from the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.

5 “‘For the entire period of his vow of separation, no razor is to pass over his head. He  must remain holy[5a] until the time of his separation[5b] to ADONAI is complete. He must let the hair of his head grow long.

6 “‘Throughout the days of his separation to ADONAI he must not go near a dead body. 7 He must not defile himself even if his father, his mother, his brother, or for his sister dies, because his separation to Elohim is on his head. 8 For the duration of his separation he is to remain holy to ADONAI.

9 “‘If someone dies suddenly in his presence and defiles his consecrated head of hair, then he must shave his head on the day of his cleansing, the seventh day. 10 On the eighth day he is to bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the cohen at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. 11 The cohen will offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering to make atonement for him, because he has sinned by being in the presence of the dead body. On that day must consecrate head again. 12 He must rededicate his time of separation to ADONAI and bring a year-old male lamb as a guilt offering.[GN] But the preceding days do not count, because his separation was defiled.

13 “‘This is the law of the Nazirite when the days of his separation are Complete. He is to be brought to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting 14 and he is to present an offering to ADONAI of an unblemished year-old male lamb as a burnt offering, one unblemished year-old ewe lamb as a sin offering, one unblemished ram as a peace offerings, 15 together with their grain and drink offerings, a basket of matzot [unleavened bread], cakes made from fine flour mixed with olive oil, and unleavened wafers coated with olive oil. 16 The cohen is to offer all these before ADONAI and and make the sin offering and burnt offering. 17 He is also to offer the ram as a peace offering to ADONAI along with the basket of matzot. The cohen is also to offer its associated grain and drinl offerings. 18 Then at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting the Nazirite is to shave his consecrated head, take his hair, and put it on the fire under the peace offering. 19 And the cohen is to take the boiled shoulder of the ram, one unleavened cake out from the basket, and one unleavened wafer, and put them into the hands of the Nazirite after he has just shaved the hair of his consecration. 20 The cohen is then to wave them as a wave offering before ADONAI. This is the holy portion for the cohen, in addition to with the breast of the wave offering and the thigh that was presented. After that, the Nazirite may drink wine.

21 “‘This is the law of the Nazirite who vows his offering to ADONAI for his separation, in addition to whatever else he is able to afford; he must fulfill whatever vow he makes, according to the ritual of his separation.’”

v. The Aaronic Blessing (6:22-27)

22 ADONAI told Moshe, 23 “Tell Aharon and to his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the people of Isra'el.’ You are to tell them,

24  ‘Y’varekh’kha ADONAI v’yishmerekha.

[May ADONAI bless you, and keep you.]

25 Ya’er ADONAI panav eleikha vichunekka.

[May ADONAI make his face to shine on you and show you His favor,]

26 Yissa ADONAI panav eleikha v’yasem l’kha shalom.

[May ADONAI lift up his face toward you and give you peace.]’

27 “In this way they are to place My Name[27a] on the people of Isra'el; and I will bless them.”[27b]

Chapter 7

5a. Hebrew קָדֹ֣שׁ (ka-dosh) sacred, holy, Holy One, saint, set apart for a specific purpose. [BACK]

5b. Hebrew יַזִּ֤יר (yaz·zîr) to dedicate, consecrate, separate. [BACK]

27a. Note that He did not command them to place one of His titles on the people of Isra'el. If the Name of the Most High is too sacred to pronounce [as rabbinic Judaism claims], then why did He command the Levites to use this blessing to “place My Name on the people of Isra'el”? He would be commanding them to do something they were not permitted to do. [BACK]

27b. The Holman Christian Standard Bible translates this verse as, “In this way they will pronounce My name over the Israelites, and I will bless them.” The New American Standard Bible translates it as, “So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and I [then] will bless them.” The clear intent is that the cohenim are to actually pronounce the Sacred Name.[GN] [BACK]
