If you do not believe that Genesis chapters 1 thru 11 are literally true, how can you possibly believe that John 3:16 is literally true?

1 (16:36) ADONAI told Moshe, 2 (16:37) “Speak to El‘azar ben Aharon the cohen, and tell him to take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire away from the camp; for they are holy, 3 (16:38) even the censers of those who sinned against their own lives. Let them be beaten into plates for a covering of the altar, for they offered them in the presence of ADONAI. Therefore they are holy. They shall be a sign to the people of Isra'el.”

4 (16:39) El‘azar the cohen took the bronze censers which those who were burned had offered; and they beat them out for a covering of the altar, 5 (16:40) to serve as a reminder to the people of Isra'el, to the end that no stranger who isn’t of the descendants of Aharon, would come near to burn incense in the presence of ADONAI, that he not be as Korah and as his company; as ADONAI spoke to him through Moshe.

iii. Aaron Halts the Plague (16:41-50)

6 (16:41) But on the next day all the community of the people of Isra'el complained against Moshe and against Aharon, “You have killed ADONAI’s people!”

7 (16:42) When the community was assembled against Moshe and Aharon, they looked toward the Tent of Meeting. Hinneh, the cloud covered it, and ADONAI’s glory appeared. 8 (16:43) Moshe and Aharon came to the front of the Tent of Meeting.

(iv) 9 (16:44) ADONAI told Moshe, 10 (16:45) “Get away from among this community, that I may consume them in a moment!” They fell on their faces.

11 (16:46) Moshe said to Aharon, “Take your censer, put fire from the altar in it, lay incense on it, carry it quickly to the community, and make atonement for them; for wrath has gone out from ADONAI! The plague has begun.”

12 (16:47) Aharon did as Moshe said, and ran into the middle of the assembly. The plague had already begun among the people. He put on the incense, and made atonement for the people. 13 (16:48) He stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. 14 (16:49) Now fourteen thousand seven hundred died by the plague, in addition to those who died over the matter of Korah. 15 (16:50) Aharon returned to Moshe to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and the plague was stopped.

iv. Aaron’s Staff Buds (17:1-13)

(v) 16 (1) ADONAI told Moshe, 17 (2) “Speak to the people of Isra'el, and take staffs from them, one for each fathers’ house, of all their chiefs according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. Write each man’s name on his staff. 18 (3) You are to write Aharon’s name on Levi’s staff. There is to be one staff for each head of their fathers’ houses. 19 (4) You are to lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the Covenant, where I meet with you. 20 (5) The staff of the man whom I will choose will bud. I will make the grumbling of the people of Isra'el, which they grumble against you, cease from Me.”

iii. Aaron Halts the Plague (16:41-50)

21 (6) Moshe spoke to the people of Isra'el; and all their chiefs gave him staffs, one for each leader, according to their fathers’ houses, a total of twelve staffs. Aharon’s staff was among their staffs. 22 (7) Moshe laid up the staffs in the presence of ADONAI in the Tent of the Testimony.

23 (8) The next day, Moshe went into the Tent of the Testimony; and Hinneh, Aharon’s staff for the house of Levi had sprouted, budded, produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.

(iv) 24 (9) Moshe brought out all the staffs from in the presence of ADONAI to all the people of Isra'el. They looked, and each man took his staff.

25 (10) ADONAI said to Moshe, “Put Aharon’s staff back next to the Covenant, to be kept for a token against the descendants of rebellion; that you may make an end of their complaining against Me, so that they not die.” 26 (11) Moshe did so. He did as ADONAI commanded him.

27 (12) The people of Isra'el said to Moshe, “Hinneh, we’re going to die! We are undone! We are all undone! 28 (13) Everyone who keeps approaching ADONAI’s tabernacle dies! Are we all going to die?”
