The summary of the entire Torah is as simple as this:
Love what HaShem loves; hate what HaShem hates.
All else is commentary.

ix. The Inheritance of the Daughters of Zelophehad (36:1-13)

(LY: vii) 1 The heads of the fathers’ households of the family of the descendants of Gil‘ad, ben Machir, ben M’nasheh, of the families of the sons of Yosef, came near and spoke before Moshe and before the chiefs, the heads of the fathers’ households of the people of Isra'el. 2 They said, “ADONAI commanded my lord to give the land for inheritance by lot to the people of Isra'el. My lord was commanded by ADONAI to give the inheritance of Tz’lof’chad our brother to his daughters. 3 If they are married to any of the sons of the other clans of the people of Isra'el, then their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of our fathers, and will be added to the inheritance of the clan to which they shall belong. So it will be taken away from the lot of our inheritance. 4 When the jubilee of the people of Isra'el comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the clan to which they shall belong. So their inheritance will be taken away from the inheritance of the clan of our fathers.”

5 Moshe commanded the people of Isra'el according to ADONAI’s word, saying, “The clan of the sons of Yosef speak what is right. 6 This is the thing which ADONAI commands concerning the daughters of Tz’lof’chad, saying, ‘Let them be married to whom they think best, only they shall marry into the family of the clan of their father. 7 So shall no inheritance of the people of Isra'el move from clan to clan; for the people of Isra'el shall all keep the inheritance of the clan of his fathers. 8 Every daughter who possesses an inheritance in any clan of the people of Isra'el shall be wife to one of the family of the clan of her father, that the people of Isra'el may each possess the inheritance of his fathers. 9 So shall no inheritance move from one clan to another clan; for the clans of the people of Isra'el shall each keep his own inheritance.’”

(Maftir) 10 The daughters of Tz’lof’chad did as ADONAI commanded Moshe: 11 for Machlah, Tirtzah, Hoglah, Milkah, and No‘ah, the daughters of Tz’lof’chad, were married to their father’s brothers’ sons. 12 They were married into the families of the sons of M’nasheh ben Yosef. Their inheritance remained in the clan of the family of their father.

13 These are the mitzvot and the ordinances which ADONAI commanded by Moshe to the people of Isra'el in the plains of Mo’av by the Yarden at Yericho.

Listen to Haftarah Masa'ei read from the Complete Jewish Bible

Haftarah Masa‘ei:
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 2:4–28; 3:4 (A)
Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 2:4–28; 4:1-2 (S)

4: 4 Hear the word of ADONAI, O house of Ya'akov,
and all the families of the house of Isra'el!
5  This is what ADONAI says,
“What have your ancestors found wrong with Me
to make them go so far away from me,
to make them go after nothings,
and to have become themselves nothings?
6 They didn’t ask, ‘Where is ADONAI
Who brought us up out of the land of Egypt,
Who led us through the wilderness,
through a land of wastes and of ravines,
through a land of drought and death-dark shadows,
through a land where no one travels,
and where no one lives?’
7 I brought you into a fertile land
to enjoy its fruit and its good things;
but when you entered, you defiled My land,
and made My heritage loathsome.
8 The cohenim didn’t ask, ‘Where is ADONAI?’
Those who deal with the Torah didn’t know Me,
the people’s shepherds rebelled against Me,
the prophets prophesied by Ba'al
and went things of no value.
9 “So I will state my case against you,” says ADONAI,
“and I will also state it against your grandchildren.
10 cross over to the coasts of Kitti'imCyprus, [MAP] and look.
Send to Kedar and observe closely,
and see if anything like this has happened before.
11 Has a nation ever changed its gods,
(which really are not gods at all)?
Yet My people have exchanged their Glory
for something which has no value!
12 “Be astonished at this, you heavens!
Be absolutely terrified!” says ADONAI.
13 “For My people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken Me,
the spring of living waters,
and dug for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns
that can’t hold water!
14 Is Isra'el a slave, born into servitude?
If not, then why has he become a captive?
15 The young lions have roared at him so very loudly!
They have made his land desolate.
His cities are demolished and uninhabited.
16 The people of NofMemphis [MAP] and Tachpanches [MAP]
have broken the crown of your head.
17 “Haven’t you brought this on yourself
by abandoning ADONAI your God,
when He led you along the way?
18 Now what can you possibly gain by going to Egypt?
Drinking water from the Nile?
Or why would you go to AshurAssyria? [MAP]
To drink the waters of the Euphrates River?
19 “Your own wickedness will correct you,
and your backsliding will rebuke you.
You will know see what an an evil and bitter thing it is
that you have forsaken ADONAI your God,
and that your fear of Me is not in you,”
says Adonai ELOHIM-Tzva’otof hosts or of armies.
20 “Long ago you broke your yoke of bondage,
tore off your chains,
and said, ‘I will not serve!’
And on every high hill and under every green tree
you lay yourself down,
playing the prostitute.
21 But I had planted you as a choice vine
of the best and purest seed.
How then have you degenerated before me
into a rotten wild vine?
22 Even if scrub yourself
with lye and plenty of soap,
the stain of your guild is still there before me,”
says Adonai ELOHIM.
23 “How can you say, ‘I am not defiled.
I have not gone after the Ba'alim’?
Look at your conduct in the valley;
acknowledge what you have done.
You are a swift young she-camel
galloping here and there,
24 wild, at home in the wilderness,
sniffing the wind in her lust.
Who can control her when she’s in heat?
Males seeking her need not weary themselves.
When she is in heat, they will find her.
25 “Keep your feet from being bare,
and your throat from being dry wity thirst.
But you say, ‘No! It’s hopeless!
I love these strangers,
and I’m going to follow them!’
26 Just as a thief is ashamed when he is caught,
so the house of Isra'el is ashamed —
they, their kings, their leaders,
their cohenim, and their prophets,
27 who say to a log, ‘You are my father,’
and a stone, ‘You gave birth to me.’
For they have turned their backs to Me,
instead of their and faces.
But when trouble comes they beg, ‘Rise up and save us!’
28 “Where are your gods
that you have made for yourselves?
Let them rise up,
if they can save you in your time of trouble.
Y'hudah, you have as many gods as you have cities!

3:4 (A) Have you not just cried out to Me, ‘My Father, you are my friend from my youth!’?

4:1–2 (S)1 “If you will return, Isra'el,” says ADONAI,
“if you will return to Me, and if you will put away
your abominations out of My sight;
then you will not be removed;
2 and you will swear, ‘As ADONAI lives,’
in truth, in justice, and in righteousness.
The nations will bless themselves in Him,
and they will glory in Him.”

Basar (Gospel)

Mark 11:12-25

12The next day as they were leaving Beit-Anyah Yeshua was hungry. 13Seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, He went to it to see if there was anything on it. When He reached it, He found nothing but leaves, since it was not the season for figs. 14Yeshua told it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And his talmidim heard it.

15When they arrived in Yerushalayim, Yeshua entered the Temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the Temple, and He overthrew the money changers’ tables and the seats of those who sold doves. 16He would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the Temple. 17Then He began to teach them, “Isn’t it written, ‘My house will be called a house of prayer for all the nations?’ But you have made it a den of robbers!”

18When the cohenim gadolimchief priests and the sofrimscribes, Torah teachers heard about this, they began looking for a way to kill Him. For they were afraid of Him because the entire crowd was astonished by His teaching.

19When evening came, Yeshua and His talmidim left the city.

20The next morning as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered away from the roots up. 21Kefa remembered and said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered away.”

22Yeshua answered them, “Have faith in God. 23For most certainly[GN] I tell you, whoever tells this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and doesn’t doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever things syou ask for in prayer, believing that you have already received them, you will have them. 25And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven, may also forgive you your transgressions. 26But if you don’t forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your transgressions.”

Kepherim (Letters, optional)

Ya‘akov (James) 4:1–12

1What is causing all the quarrels and fignts among you? Don’t they come from the desires at war inside you? 2You desire the things that you don’t have. You murder and covet, but can’t obtain. You fight and make war. You don’t have, because you don’t ask. 3And when you ask, you don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may squander it on your pleasures. 4You adulterers and adulteresses, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5Or do you think that the Tanakh vainly teaches, “The Spirit who lives in us yearns jealously”? 6But the grace He gives is greater. That is why it says,

“God opposes the arrogent,

but gives grace to the humble.”

7Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9Lament, mourn, and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will exalt you.

11Don’t speak against one another, brothers. He who speaks against a brother and judges his brother, speaks against the Torah and judges the Torah. But if you judge the Torah, you are not a doer of Torah but a judge. 12Only one is the lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge another?
