Parsha 38. Korach • Continued
v. Priests and Levites’ Duties (18:1-32)
1 ADONAI said to Aharon, “You, your sons, and your fathers’ family line will be responsible for anything that goes wrong in the sanctuary; and you and your sons will be responsible for anything wrong with your service as cohenim. 2 You are to bring your kinsmen, the clan of Levi, your father’s clan, along with you, so that they may wirk with you and help you when you are there before the Tent of the Testimony. 3 They are fo follow your instructions to carry out the work of the Tent; only they must not come near the vessels of the sanctuary or the altar, so that neither they nor you will die. 4 They are to work together with you in the responsibilities of the Tent of Meeting, anything to do with the service of the Tent; no unauthorized person is to come near to you.
5 “You are to take care of the things of the sanctuary and the altar, so that there may be no more wrath on the people of Isra'el. 6 Hinneh,[GN] I Myself have taken your kinsmen the L’vi’im from among the people of Isra'el. They are a gift to you, dedicated to ADONAI, so that you can perform the service in the Tent of Meeting. 7 You and your sons are to perform the responsibilities as cohenim for everything pertaining to the altar, and for everything which lies within the curtain. I give you the service of cohenim as a gift. Anu unauthorized person who comes near must be put to death.”
8 ADONAI told Aharon, “Hinneh, I Myself have put you in charge of the contributions given Me. Everything consecrated by the people of Isra'el I have given to you and your sons; this is a perpetual law. 9 Here is what is to be yours of the expecially holy things taken from the fire: every offering they make — that is, every grain offering, every sin offering, and every trespass offering they offer to Me — will be especially holy for you and your sons. 10 You are to eat it in an especially holy place; every male may eat it; it is to be set apart for you.
11 “This is also yours: every contribution the people of Israel give as a wave offering I have given to you, and your sons, your daughters as a portion forever. Everyone who is [ceremonially] clean in your house may eat of it.
12 “I have given you all the best of the olive oil, wine, grain; the first portion of what they give to ADONAI, I have given to you. 13 The first-ripe fruits of all the pstaffuce of their land that they bring to ADONAI is to be yours. Everyone in your household who is [ceremonially] clean may eat it.
14 “Everything in Israel that has been consecrated uncontionally is to be yours. 15 Everything that comes first from the womb, of all living things they offer to ADONAI, both of humans and animals, is to be yours. However, you must be sure to redeem the firstborn of humans and the firstborn of unclean animals. 16 The sum for redeeming everyone a month old or older is to be five shekels [two ounces] as you value it using the sanctuary shekel,[GN] which weighs twenty gerahs.[GN]
17 “But you may not redeem the firstborn of a cow, a sheep, or a goat. They are holy. You are to sprinkle their blood on the altar, and burn their choicest parts as an offering made by fire, for a fragrant aroma for ADONAI. 18 Their meat will be yours, like the breast that is waved and the right thigh — they will be yours. 19 All the contributions of holy things which the people of Isra'el offer to ADONAI, I have given you, your sons, and your daughters; this is a perpetual law, an eternal covenant of salt before ADONAI for you and your descendants.”
20 ADONAI said to Aharon, “You are not to have any inheritance or portion of their land; I am your portion and your inheritance among the people of Isra'el.
(vii) 21 “To the descendants of Levi I have given the entire tenth of the pstaffuce collected in Isra'el. It is their inheritance in payment for the service they render in the Tent of Meeting. 22 From now on, the people of Isra'el must not come near the Tent of Meeting, so they do not they bear the consequence of their sin and die. 23 only the L’vi’im are to perform the service of the Tent of Meeting, and they will be responsible for anything they do wrong. This is to be a permanent regulation your generations. They are to have no inheritance among the people of Isra'el, 24 because I have goven to the L’vi’im as their an inheritance a tithe of the pstaffuce which the people of Israel set aside as a gift for ADONAI. This is why I have said to them that they are to have no inheritanace among the people of Isra'el.’”
25 ADONAI told Moshe, 26 “Tell the L’vi’im, ‘When you take from the people of Isra'el the tenth of the pstaffuce which I have given you from them as your inheritance, you are to set aside from it an offering for ADONAI, a tehth of the tenth. 27 The gift you set aside will be accounted to you as if it were the grain from the threshing floor and juice from the winepress. 28 In this way you will set aside a gift for ADONAI from all of your tenths that you receive from the people of Isra'el; and from these tenths you are to give to Aharon the cohen the gift set aside for ADONAI. 29 From everything given to you, you are to set aside all that is due ADONAI, the best part of it, its holy portion.’
(Maftir) 30 “Therefore you are to tell them, ‘When you set aside from its best part, it will be accounted to the L’vi’im as if it were grain from the threshing floor and juice from the winepress. 31 You may eat it anywhere, you and your households, because it is your payment in return for your service in the Tent of Meeting. 32 Moreover, because you will have set aside from its best parts, you will not be committing any sin because of it; for you are not to profane the holy things of the people of Isra'el, or you will die.’”

Haftarah Korach is Sh’mu’el Alef (1 Samuel) 11:14 – 12:22
Listen to Haftarah Korach read from the Complete Jewish Bible
11 14 Then Shmuel said to the people, “Come! Let’s go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.” 15 All the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Sha'ul king before ADONAI in Gilgal. There they offered sacrifices of peace offerings before ADONAI; and there Sha'ul and all the men of Isra'el rejoiced greatly.
12 1 Shmuel said to all Isra'el, “Hinneh, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you. 2 Now, hinneh, the king walks before you. I am old and gray-headed. Hinneh, my sons are with you. I have walked before you from my youth to this day. 3 Here I am. Witness against me before ADONAI and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Whose donkey have I taken? Whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Of whose hand have I taken a bribe to make me blind my eyes? I will restore it to you.”
4 They said, “You have not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything from anyone’s hand.”
5 He said to them, “ADONAI is witness against you, and his anointed is witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.”
They said, “He is witness.” 6 Shmuel said to the people, “It is ADONAI who appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. 7 Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before ADONAI concerning all the righteous acts of ADONAI, which he did to you and to your fathers.
8 “When Jacob had come into Egypt, and your fathers cried to ADONAI, then ADONAI sent Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place. 9 But they forgot ADONAI their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the P’lishtim, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them. 10 They cried to ADONAI, and said, ‘We have sinned, because we have forsaken ADONAI and have served the Baals and the Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.’ 11 ADONAI sent Jerubbaal, Bedan, Jephthah, and Shmuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and you lived in safety.
12 “When you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, you said to me, ‘No, but a king shall reign over us,’ when ADONAI your God was your king. 13 Now therefore see the king whom you have chosen and whom you have asked for. Hinneh, ADONAI has set a king over you. 14 If you will fear ADONAI, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of ADONAI, then both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of ADONAI your God. 15 But if you will not listen to ADONAI’s voice, but rebel against the commandment of ADONAI, then ADONAI’s hand will be against you, as it was against your fathers.
16 “Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which ADONAI will do before your eyes. 17 Isn’t it wheat harvest today? I will call to ADONAI, that he may send thunder and rain; and you will know and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in ADONAI’s sight, in asking for a king.”
18 So Shmuel called to ADONAI, and ADONAI sent thunder and rain that day. Then all the people greatly feared ADONAI and Shmuel.
19 All the people said to Shmuel, “Pray for your servants to ADONAI your God, that we not die; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for a king.”
20 Shmuel said to the people, “Don’t be afraid. You have indeed done all this evil; yet don’t turn away from following ADONAI, but serve ADONAI with all your heart. 21 Don’t turn away to go after vain things which can’t profit or deliver, for they are vain. 22 For ADONAI will not forsake his people for his great name’s sake, because it has pleased ADONAI to make you a people for himself.

Basar
(Gospel)
Matt 26:13-24
13I’m telling you the truth, whenever this Good News is proclaimed anywhere in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a memorial to her.”
14Then one of the twelve, Y'hudah the SicariusJudas Iscariot, went to the leading priestscohenim 15and asked them, “What are you willing to pay me to deliver Him to you?” They weighed out thirty pieces of silver for him. 16From that time on he sought an opportunity to betray Him.
17Now, on the first day of at the beginning of the preparation for the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the disciplestalmidim came to Yeshua and asked “Where do You want us to prepare You to eat the Pesach?”
18He said, Go into the city and find a certain man and tell him that the Rabbi says, ‘My time is near. I will keep the Passover with My disciplestalmidim at your house.’”
19The disciplestalmidim did as Yeshua had instructed them, and they prepared the Seder.
20That evening He was reclining at the table with the twelve disciplestalmidim. 21As they were eating, He said, I’m telling you truthfully that one of you is going to betray Me.”
22They became extremely upset, and each began to ask Him, “It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”
23He answered, The one who dipped his matza in the dish with Me is the one who will betray Me. 24The Son of Man will die just as the TanakhHebrew Bible says He will, but woe to that man y whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had never been born.”
Additional Readings (optional)
2 Timothy 2:8–21 and Y’hudah (Jude) 1–25
8 Remember Yeshua the Messiah, risen from the dead, a descendant of David, according to my Good News, 9 in which I suffer hardship to the point of chains as a criminal. But God’s word isn’t chained. 10 Therefore I endure all things for sake of the chosen ones, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Messiah Yeshua with eternal glory. 11 This saying is trustworthy:
“For if we died with Him,
we will also live with Him.
12 If we endure,
we will also reign with Him.
If we deny Him,
He also will deny us.
13 If we are faithless,
He remains faithful;
for He can’t deny Himself.”
14 Remind them of these things, charging them in the sight of the Lord that they don’t argue about words to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.
15 Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth. 16 But shun empty chatter, for it will go further in ungodliness, 17 and those words will consume like gangrene, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus: 18 men who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some. 19 However, God’s firm foundation stands, having this seal:
“The Lord knows His own,”
and,
“Let every one claims he belongs to the Lord
stand apart from wrongdoing.”
20 Now in a large house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of clay. Some are for honor and some for dishonor. 21 So if anyone purges himself from these, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, and suitable for the Master’s use, prepared for every good work.
1Y'hudahJudah (Jude), a servant of Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah, and brother of Ya'akovJacob (“James”), to those who are called, sanctified by God the Father, and kept for Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah: 2May you have a fulness of mercy, shalom, and love.
3My dear friends, while I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I felt it necessary to write to you urging you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.
4For some people, who were long ago written about as being meant for this condemnation. have crept in secretly: ungodly men, who are turning the grace of our God into promiscuity, and denying our only Master, and Lord, Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah.
5You already know this, but I need to remind you, that ADONAI, Who delivered the people out of the land of Egypt, later destroyed those who didn’t believe.
6And the angels who didn’t stay within their original domain, but deserted their own proper realm, He has kept in eternal chains in darkness until the Judgment of the Great Day.
And S'domSodom, 'AmoraGomorrah, and the surrounding cities, following the same pattern of sexual immorality and perversion, serve as a warning of the eternal fire that awaits those who will suffer punishment.
8Nevertheless, these dreamers likewse defile their flesh, despise authority, and revile angelic beings. 9When Miyka'elMichael, the archangel, disputed with the Adversaey and argued about the body of MosheMoses, he dared not bring an abusive condemnation against him, but said, “May ADONAI rebuke you!” 10But these people speak lashon hara against things they don’t understand, and they are destroyed by things they instinctively understand, like unreasoning animals.
11Woe to them! They have gone the way of KayinCain, and for financial gain they have rushed headlong into the error of Bil'am, and perished in Korach’s rebellion[11]. 12These people are hidden rocky reefs in festive gatherings that are meant to foster love; they share your meals with you, fearlessly caring only for themselves. They are clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, doubly dead, ripped up by the roots; 13wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like sea-foam; wandering stars for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever.
14HanokhEnoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these people, saying, “Hinneh, ADONAI came with tens of thousands of His holy ones, 15to be the Judge of everyone and to convict all the godless for all their godless deeds they have done in a godless way, and for all the harsh words which godless sinners have spoken against Him.” 16These are grumblers and complainers; they follow their lustful passions; their mouths speak arrogant words, flattering people to their own advantage.
17But you, dear friends, remember the words that were foretold by the emissaries of our Lord Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah. 18They told you, “In the acharit hayamimLast Days there will be people who, guided by their own godless passions, will make a mockery of holy things.” 19These are the people who will cause division. They are worldly-minded, devoid of the Spirit.
20But you, dear friends, keep building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in Ruach HaKodeshthe Holy Spirit. 21Keep yourselves in God’s love, anxiously awaiting the mercy of our Lord Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah to eternal life. 22Make a distinction; have mercy on some who doubt, 23save others by snatching them out of the fire; on others have mercy in fear, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh.
24Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and set you blameless and full of joy before the presence of His Sh'khinahthe glory of His presence, 25to the only God our Deliverer, through our Lord Yeshua HaMashiachthe Messiah be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. OmeinAmen.
